Country’s second largest car maker Hyundai Motors had launched Hyundai Santro in sep.2008 whose main rival at that time was the popular Maruti Suzuki Zen. It was the ’celebration edition’. The company signed a contract with bollywood actor Shahrukh khan to endorse the Santro and the car was an instant hit. It is still undergoing no. of improvements and face lifts to suit Indian customers.
INTERIORS:
The interiors of the Santro are a
mixed bag. The design of the console is still fresh and the new two tone color
scheme seems to work well here giving the Santro an up-market look and feel.
The dashboard made up of high quality plastic doesn’t rattle in the course of
time. Trendy dials and new vents give a sporty appearance to its dashboard,
instrumental cluster and the central console. Some wonderful and exciting
comforts features include a proficient air conditioner unit with heater that
cools the entire cabin very quickly, a trip meter, and an odometer to assist
the driver, a low fuel warning lamp to alert when fuel is low and needs
refilling, a power steering that is very responsive and helps in maneuvering this
hatch bag efficiently, front power window, remote fuel lid and a storage tray
under the front seat.
DRIVETRAIN:
Apart from these cosmetic changes,
the company has given it a few impressive features. It is sold in petrol as
well as LPG variant for the buyers to choose from. The prevalent petrol version
has been fitted with a performance packed 1.1 liter engine that generates 63
bhp. There is another variant that gives the option of using both petrol and
LPG. The engine of this dual fuel based hatch back is the same 1.1 liter e-RLX
engine, which is extremely fuel efficient and has apt power and torque for the
Indian road condition. This car has an excellent strut type setup, rides and
handles much better even at high speeds.
Powered by technologically
advanced Hyundai Epsilon engine, Santro demonstrate ‘active intelligence’ e RLX
technology, which enables the engine to deliver better performance and mileage.
The 1086cc in-line 4 cylinders engine deliver power of 62 bhp and 96 Nm of
torque. The low-end torque and excellent throttle makes it a good fuel
efficient car.
SAFETY:
This adorable car also has some
notable safety aspects, which ensure proper protection and security of
passengers as well as the vehicle. The tall boy design of Santro provides for
enough leg, head and elbow room. This is best suited for urban people because
it reduces the hassle of frequent gear changing in city traffic.
Crumple zones, child locks and
high torsion impact bars are the standard safety features. The pair of ultra
high strength steel members fitted into the doors of the automobile adds the
protection against side impact. A central locking system along with self
locking doors adds to the safety quotient and keeps the car secure.
Appreciated for its fuel economy,
styling and comfort, this sedan is a total money- back package for its buyer.
